"Your word is a lamp for my feet, a light on my path.” - Psalm 119:105
"All too often we as a teenagers and young adults toss around the phrase, “follow your heart” or “go with your feelings.” I was a victim of this phrase for many years. In fact, I even linked it with making Spiritual decisions. I found myself being directed by the question, “What feels right?” It sounds harmless, but it wasn’t until several months ago that I began to feel the sting of its consequences.
We live in a world that tells us whatever feels good is good. Go with whatever makes you happy. The problem with this logic is that our feelings are so unreliable. Simply applying this philosophy to dating and relationships is astonishing as we uncover the results. Think about it, as soon as our needs are no longer being met, as soon as we are no longer happy, or we just don’t have feelings for him/her anymore, we tend to run, break it off, or get out of there as fast as we can. This ethic has sadly spilled into marriages, resulting in thousands of inevitable divorces all over the world. It was a startling truth I could no longer ignore.
Once I was open to seeking a solution to this nation-wide flawed ethic, I eventually found my solution through reading God’s word. It tells us to be led by truth and not by feelings. When we are walking in the truth, we can be confident that our decisions are good ones. The truth is constant. Feelings change with atmosphere. The truth is a steady foundation. Feelings give in when they are tested. Feelings will keep us in bondage. The truth will SET US FREE.
I believe with all of my heart that if America can grasp this concept, our society would no longer have a mentality of everything being disposable, self-centeredness, and being me-focused. Love is a choice and not an emotion. I believe the more we uncover the lies Satan has attacked this world with, beginning in Hollywood and spreading like wild fire throughout the country, the more God’s truth will be revealed.
We must become so acquainted with the Truth, that the lies will no longer even deceive us.
Do you "follow your heart" or do you base your decisions off of the infallible Word of God? Go into your day with the Bible as the light for your feet in this dark world. This is the only way we can stay on the straight and narrow path that He has set us on."
