“So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them." - Genesis 1:27
"It's easy to wonder at times what our purpose in life is, what were we created for. Let's look at the very beginning. Genesis 1:27.
We are created in the very image of God! In the very beginning God reached down gave us breath. Out all creation He chose us to be the only part of creation that God reached down and formed us with His hands and breathed into our nostrils the breath of life. He created us for relationship. He wanted to daily walk with us.
As we read on in Genesis 3:8-9, God was looking for that relationship and He noticed that it was missing. God asked Adam and Eve, “Where are you?” Adam and Eve were avoiding God because they were trying to hide the sin that was separating them from God.
Back in the 1600s there was a monk named Brother Lawrence who discovered the secret of practicing the presence of God. In his book “The Practice of the Presence of God" he talks about meditating on God daily as he worked in the kitchen. He would continually acknowledge His presence. At times when the monestary would call for the monks to go pray he would ask, “Why do I have to leave this place to go pray, when I have had the sweetest times in God’s presence here washing dishes.”
God wants to do life with us! We were created to worship and know God intimately and continually. He doesn't simply want our attention during muscial worship at church, but all day long we ought to have an "I love you" in our hearts for God.
Am I walking daily with God? Am I acknowledging His presence continually around me? Or am I hiding from God while living in my daily routine, Sunday morning church and prayers before meals?"
