Authentic Worship: He Must Become Greater

"He must become greater; I must become less." - John 14:15

"God is big. He is really, really big. We often fail to grasp the vastness of God. We try to contain Him within our small little minds, when He is really the size of GALAXIES. And He is so worthy. When Moses asked for God's name, He responded by saying, "I AM WHO I AM." By saying this, God is saying that He is everything. He is all that there is. There is nothing apart from God.

Therefore, by very definition, our name is "I am not." We are nothing because God is everything! Yet, as Louie Giglio said in his book I Am Not but I Know I AM, “the unexplainable mystery of mysteries is that you and I are loved and prized by the God of all creation.” We are loved and prized by the Almighty God, the creator of the universe! Wow. Allow yourself to soak in that reality.

Another aspect of authentic worship is humility. In our lives we ought to give God all of the glory due His Name. John the Baptist said, "He must become greater; I must become less" (John 14:15). We also read about Jesus in Philippians 2, "who did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made Himself nothing. Taking the very nature of a servant, He humbled Himself to death."

As C.S. Lewis once said, "Humility is not thinking less of yourself but thinking of yourself less." Rather than focusing on ourselves and our desires and problems, we need to focus outwards on those around us. In everything we are to give God all of the glory due His name, by making ourselves less and making His Name greater.

How much of your time is spent focusing on yourself? How will you focus your time on God and the people around you today? Give Him all the glory that is due His Name!"
