"If you love Me, you will keep My commands." - John 14:15
"The first time worship was ever mentioned in the Bible is in Genesis 22:1-5. We read that God is asking Abraham to sacrifice His one and only son. This request seems counter intuitive since Isaac was the fulfillment of a great promise to Abraham that he would be the father of many nations. God was testing Abraham’s devotion. Was his devotion to God or to the promise of blessings in his life?
Abraham’s obedience was the very first act of worship mentioned in the Bible. Sometimes obedience is a sacrifice. However, as our good and perfect Father, God knows what is best for us and He wants us to trust Him completely. Many times we may even try to hang on to things in our life because we believe that it is a good for us. But if God asks us to let it go, it is because He has something far better for us.
He sees the bigger picture. Do we love Him enough to trust Him with everything? Worship is trusting God, letting go of our life and obediently following His leading.
Jesus shows us the ultimate example of worship to the Father in obedience. As the ultimate sacrifice, Jesus' obedience led to the salvation of the world.
Philippians 2:8 “And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”
Is there anything that you are holding on to? Clinging to in your life? Jesus said to lose it is to find true life. As Abraham was asked to sacrifice His own son, God may not be asking you to do something like that in your own life. If He did, would you be willing?"
