Vision: Consumed by the Call

"Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father." - John 14:12

Give your life for your calling. Believe that the Lord has designed you for huge exploits, massive adventures! But realize that although it is so worth it, it may cost you everything.

William Wilberforce (the man who abolished the slave trade in England) gave his life with such singularity to an idea that God had burdened his heart with it. He pushed towards it so vigorously that he had dreams about the dying slaves. It consumed not only his late night waking hours, but also his midnight dreams. He could no longer sleep because of it. But even then, he was so permeated by his calling to free the slaves that his subconscious caused midday hallucinations of the suffering slaves. In the end, he suffered in his health, but he accomplished what he set out to do.

I believe that we have some kind of untamable calling; some great ambition that the Lord birthed out of the same DNA He constructed us out of. I believe that this dream was molded out of the same dirt as us, and it was raised and fed by God in the same way that we were raised and fed. I believe that He unleashed it and it’s out there somewhere – that we might go and conquer it, though that may mean we give it our very lives.

Whether it be preaching to the Waodani Indians in Ecuador as Jim Elliot did, reforming the church as Martin Luther did, or appealing to Caesar as Paul did, we are called to turn the world upside down. Let us never be caught doing anything less than this.
